John Zwetchkenbaum, MD

DrZ functional medicine
Dr. Z is the chief allergist and founder of Asthma and Allergy Physicians of Rhode Island (AAPRI) and the AAPRI Center for Functional Medicine. He received his Bachelor of Science degree from Brown University, earned his medical degree from Boston University, and conducted his residency at George Washington University Hospital. Dr. Z is also board-certified in allergy and clinical immunology and certified by the Institute of Functional Medicine.

As Rhode Island’s only functional allergist, Dr. Z thinks “out of the box” and takes a more holistic approach to treating patients. He offers comprehensive and integrated solutions to help his patients achieve better health over the long term.

Amanda Matteson
Functional Medicine Practitioner

Amanda Matteson

Amanda Matteson, PA-C, is a Certified Physician Assistant and a certified functional medicine practitioner at the AAPRI Center for Functional Medicine. Prior to her role as the lead practitioner of our program, she worked alongside Dr. Z at AAPRI and has been with the practice since 2005. Amanda is a graduate of Wheaton College and Chatham College. 

Amanda’s focus is on getting to know the whole patient so she can be an effective partner on their journey to better health and quality of life. She is known for treating every patient like a member of her own family as she works to understand their health situation and support them in reaching their health goals. 

Yoko Kawashima
Functional Medicine Certified Health Coach

Yoko Kawashima Functional Medicine-Certified Health Coach Clinic Development Consultant

Yoko Kawashima is a health & wellness coach certified through the National Board for Health & Wellness Coaching (NBHWC) and clinic development consultant. She completed her health coaching certification at Functional Medicine Coaching Academy and has completed a 200-hour Yoga Alliance Certification program at Core Power Yoga, New York, NY. She received her Bachelor of Arts from Tufts University.

Yoko’s mission is to help individuals with chronic health conditions to regain control of their health and elevate their well-being. She previously worked in finance for 15 years before changing careers to help others avoid the health struggles (including three autoimmune conditions) she herself faced throughout her 20s and 30s. Her health coaching offers a client-centered approach, focusing on the root cause of underlying health concerns—not just the symptoms. Her methods empower clients to reclaim their health and well-being by modifying both lifestyle factors and mindset.

Peter Dionosopoulos
Physical Therapist

Peter Dionisopoulos Physical Therapist
Peter Dionosopoulos received his Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology and Doctorate of Physical Therapy, both from the University of Rhode Island. He has pursued mentorship opportunities in physical therapy, pain science, and strength and conditioning training from top professionals all over the country in an effort to improve his understanding and hone his own approach to helping individuals achieve their physical heights.

Pete has had the privilege to travel and work with D1 and professional athletes, special forces military operators, and many general population adults and athletes.
